Punta Banda Strong

Punta Banda Strong is a weekly beach cleanup initiative founded by Gary Woodruff, modeled after the Solo Sweep project.

In late 2020, as the pandemic was taking away public gatherings on beaches in California, they started doing Solo Sweep. The idea was to go out alone, pick up only ten pieces of trash (more if you like), take a picture of the weirdest thing you found, then post it and tag some friends.

Every week we invite you to pick up litter from the beaches and other natural areas on the Punta Banda Peninsula and participate in a contest to see who can find the most unusual or interesting piece of trash. You could pick up the trash anytime, but it must be posted on our Facebook page by end of day on Thursday for the chance to win a beautiful beach trophy!

This program only works if you embrace it and have fun with it! Aloha!

How To Participate

Step 1: Pick up Trash

Pick up trash on the beach

TIP!:

If you’re walking out and back, pick up the trash on the way back. You don’t need to carry it both ways.

Step 2: Document your Efforts

Take a selfie with your bags of trash and a photo of your weirdest or most interesting piece of trash, then share them with us. You can pick up the trash anytime, but your photos must be posted by end of day Thursday to participate in the week’s contest. Follow the link below to our Facebook page and post your submissions in the comments of the week’s post.

Step 3: Engage with the Community

Like your favorite submission! Tag and mention your friends on your submission! Repost and share! Spread the word! See who will join the fun!

TIP!:

Carry a few extra bags with you. I’d often run into people who wanted to help, so I handed them a bag. Most of all, feel good about what you’re doing for our beaches

The submission with the most “likes” by the end of day Saturday will be that week’s winner.

Awards will be given seasonally for categories such as most litter gathered, most consistent participation, and overall best find.
