Join Us in Conserving Our Coastal Treasure

This Friday May 24 and Saturday May 25, mark the final opportunity to take part in a vital conservation effort that has been the heart of our community for the past three weekends. We are calling on all nature enthusiasts, community members, and local heroes to unite for a cause that is not only crucial for our environment but also for the survival of the endangered California least tern.

Why Your Help Matters

The California least tern has chosen the beach dunes at the end of the spit as their nesting ground. However, invasive plant species threaten to disrupt this delicate habitat, putting the future of these birds at risk. By participating in the removal of these harmful plants, you are contributing to the restoration of a safe haven for these terns to thrive.

Particularly problematic to the California least tern on our local beaches is the invasive, non-native sea rocket (Cakile maritima).

A Community Effort

This project is more than just conservation work; it’s a chance to connect with fellow locals who share a passion for wildlife and natural habitats. It’s an experience that promises camaraderie, a sense of accomplishment, and the joy of making a tangible difference in our world.

Your Reward

To show their appreciation for your dedication and hard work, all participants will be treated to a free lunch from Pro Esteros —a small token for the significant impact you are making. So, bring your gloves, wear your hats, and join us in this fulfilling endeavor. Let’s come together to protect our coastal gem and ensure that the California least terns have a place to call home for generations to come.

Your participation is more than just volunteer work; it’s a statement that the preservation of our natural world is a priority. It’s a step towards fostering a sustainable environment where both wildlife and humans can coexist harmoniously. So, let’s make these two days count and show that our community stands united for the cause of conservation.

How to Get Involved

To be a part of this rewarding project, fill out this form to let Pro Esteros know of your availability and any dietary restrictions.

The group will be meeting at 9:30 AM at the Fisher Camp parking lot at the base of the spit. Please call Ivan Maniquez at +52 646-196-2379 for details and directions, and to confirm you’re coming so they know to look for you.

Remember, this is the last chance in Pro Esteros’ three-weekend series to make a difference. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to contribute to a legacy of environmental stewardship and to meet others who care deeply about the future of our planet.

We can’t wait to see you there, making a difference, one plant at a time. 🌿🐦
