Citizen Science on the Beach: Bird Mortality

Mujeres en Parvada, in conjunction with the Ensenada bird community, has noticed periods of high mortality of seabirds stranded on the local shores: terns, pelicans, gulls and cormorants, mainly. This project seeks to document and understand the causes of seabird mortality that we have been observing in recent months, through constant monitoring and recording. The project covers from San Miguel beach to the Punta Banda peninsula.

We invite the entire community to join us in this citizen science project, through which we will be recording injured or dead birds found on the beach through the iNaturalist application. The project can be found at: https://mexico.inaturalist.org/projects/mortandad-de-aves-en-ensenada-b-c

To participate, please follow the instructions on the graphics below.

This information will be very helpful to determine the cause of mortality in these birds, and to record mortality events as evidence to propose management actions and recommendations.
